2009 Skoda Octavia Scout

2009 Skoda Octavia Scout

Following images of the new vRS the Octavia Scout has been given the once over by the Skoda facelift team. The look is almost more Subaru Outback than the Outback itself. Subtle additions to the bodywork give the Scout the car a purposeful and rugged appaearance.

Despite the looks the car has just 179mm ground clearance which is good, but not great. Having previously owned a 2001 model Outback, which had 200mm ground clearance it’s easy to see plenty of situations where the Scout will be compromised. Still, in reality, this will matter little to the majority of owners who will only indluge in the lightest of off-road journeys, if at all. On that basis, a lower centre of gravity is a good thing.

The Scout can be powered by a 118kW 1.8 TSI petrol engine or a 103kW 2.0 TDI diesel. A six speed manual is the only gearbox on offer and both cars utilise Gen IV Haldex all-wheel drive technology.

Earlier this year, Skoda Australia proved the car’s ability by sending a pre-facelift Scout around the country, covering over 20,000kms in six weeks. You can read more about that in AUSmotive’s Melbourne International Motor Show article on Skoda.

More after the jump.

  • Å koda Auto reveals exclusive first pictures of facelift Octavia Scout

Å koda Auto has released the first official images of the facelifted Octavia vRS and Octavia Scout. Following the launch of the new Octavia late last year, the vRS and Scout have been updated to bring them into line with the current range and family face of Å koda.

The Scout range is an established and popular part of Škoda’s portfolio, and the new Octavia Scout is the flagship of the line. Since its introduction in 2007, more than 22,000 customers have bought the Octavia Scout. The new Scout has a redesigned front grille, bold headlamps and body-coloured side mouldings. The front fog lights can be fitted with the optional cornering function and the large front bumper emphasises the car’s rugged appearance. A new metallic paint, Rosso Brunello, is also available across the Octavia range.

With 179mm ground clearance and efficient chassis protection, the Octavia Scout can also handle itself off-road. The all-wheel drive system features the fourth-generation Haldex clutch, which can transfer as much as 86 per cent of the torque to a single wheel.

The Scout is available with two engines – the petrol 1.8 TSI 160bhp (Euro 5) and diesel 2.0 TDI PD PDF 140bhp (EU4) – combined with a six-speed mechanical transmission.
