Subaru officially teases BRZ Concept STi

Subaru BRZ Concept STi rendering

It takes two to tango when you make an affordable ‘Toybaru’ sportscar. We’ve seen some unofficial material recently for the Toyota FT-86 and now Subaru has given us an official sneak preview of its BRZ Concept STi.

Subaru’s BRZ will premiere at the LA Auto Show in a couple of weeks, meaning it will be the first in the Toybaru project to be officially revealed to the public. Although, the production ready BRZ, like the FT-86, will have a full reveal at the Tokyo Motor Show in December.

Expect the basic specs to match the FT-86, so think around 200hp from the 2.0 litre boxer engine and, of course, a compact rear-wheel drive layout.

It’s a bit hard to tell without seeing the full car, and it’s been a long time since we’ve been able to say this about a Sunaru, but we reckon the BRZ has the edge over the FT-86 so far in regards to looks.

Subaru BRZ Concept to World Premiere at LA Show

Subaru Automobile has today announced that the BRZ Concept will make its world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto show (November 18-27, 2011).

The BRZ Concept is a pre-cursor to the eagerly awaited Subaru BRZ which makes it full production debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in December.

Built around Subaru’s core technologies, the BRZ will use a new 2.0 litre Subaru Boxer engine developed specifically for the model and with the latest direct injection technology to improve combustion and efficiency.

The Subaru engineered chassis is built with front engine and rear wheel drive configuration, allowing the engine to sit low and rearward to ensure lowest possible centre of gravity and to maximise the BRZ’s handling prowess.

The new compact coupe has been developed as part of an on-going joint project with Toyota Motor Corporation. All cars will be built at Subaru’s Gunma plant in Japan when production starts in spring 2012.

Subaru BRZ Concept-STI to Premiere at L.A. Auto Show

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru cars, has announced the world premiere of the Subaru BRZ Concept–STI (Subaru Tecnica International) at the Los Angeles Auto Show this month.

The concept car is based on the Subaru BRZ, an all-new rear-wheel drive compact sports car, which is due to be unveiled in production form at Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the month.

Featuring Subaru’s core technology of the horizontally-opposed Boxer engine, the model has a low centre of gravity that results in a “pure handling delight,” according to FHI.

STI is Subaru’s performance division.

L.A. Auto Show press days are November 16 and 17. It is open to the public from November 18 to 27.
