BMW Australia confirms M3 Pure Edition II

BMW M3 Coupe Pure Edition II

As tipped by AUSmotive reader Wayne last week, BMW Australia has confirmed plans to introduce a new limited-run M3 model called the Pure Edition II. Available to order in coupé form only, between March and July, the Pure Edition II will be limited to 50 models and is exclusive to the Australian market.

BMW Australia launched the Pure Edition back in 2010. The 2012 version follows in the same path and includes 19″ lightweight alloys finished in gloss black paint, as well as various dark details on things like the kidney grille and bonnet intakes.

Setting the Pure Edition II apart is access to a number of BMW Individual paint finishes, including Fire Orange, first seen on the limited edition M3 GTS, Dakar Yellow II, Laguna Seca, Sepang Bronze and Imola Red.

It’s the 40th anniversary of M GmbH this year, and surely a Pure Edition II would be the must have fashion accessory when party time rolls around. You’ll need to have a spare $145,000 plus on roads if you want to be all the rage.

“Fast n’ Loud”: BMW Announces M3 Coupé Pure Edition II in ‘Individual’ Paint Finishes

  • Limited production run of 50 units, exclusively for the Australian market
  • Design enhancements focus on sporty highlights of the M3 Coupé
  • Additional exclusive M specific design elements
  • Additional sports-oriented specification as standard
  • Select BMW Individual paint finishes as standard

25 January 2012 – Following overwhelming demand for the first M3 Pure Edition, BMW has announced details of a ‘Pure Edition II’ for the M3 Coupé in Australia. This exclusive release offers additional features over and above the original M3 Pure as well as providing access to a large range of attention-grabbing paint finishes straight from the ‘BMW Individual’ colour pallet.

All 100 units of the first M3 Pure Edition were snapped up in record time which saw M3 Coupé sales in Australia increase by almost 10% in 2011.

The M3 Coupé Pure Edition II offers the same distinctive design enhancements as the original model, which include highlights such as 19” M Double-spoke light alloy wheels finished exclusively in Black High-Gloss with 245/35 R19 tyres up front and 265/35 R 19 tyres at the rear, bonnet air intake in Black High-Gloss, BMW Individual kidney grille in Dark Chrome, BMW Individual side gills in Dark Chrome and BMW Individual exhaust tips in Dark Chrome.

Differentiating the Pure Edition II from the original M3 Pure is a multitude of attention grabbing colours from BMW Individual. The selection includes Fire Orange, first seen on the limited edition M3 GTS, Dakar Yellow II, Laguna Seca, Sepang Bronze, and Imola Red. Offered as part of the package costs, the Individual paint finishes alone represent as much as $10,000 in added-value.

Completing the ‘Edition II’ exclusive features are BMW Individual handbrake lever with “M Power” stitching and door sill finishers with M3 chequered flag inlay.

Starting from $145,000* with standard manual 6-speed transmission, just 50 examples the M3 Coupé Pure Edition II are available to order from March to July 2012 production.

The BMW M3 features a 309 kW V8 engine. Peak torque is 400 Nm. The BMW M3 Coupé sprints to 100 km/h in 4.8 sec, while fuel consumption in the EU test cycle is 12.4 litres/100 km.

All M3s, including the Pure Edition, feature the signature variable M differential lock – with up to 100 per cent locking action with fully variable action whenever required – which provides perfect traction for the rear wheels.

Brake Energy Regeneration as well as Automatic Start / Stop function are also standard across the entire M3 range, as well as high-performance ventilated and perforated compound disk brakes.

Like other M3 Coupés, the Pure Edition II also features a lightweight carbon-fibre roof.

2012 marks the 40th Anniversary of BMW M GmbH, BMW’s iconic high-performance vehicle division.

BMW Group Australia, Managing Director Phil Horton said the M3 Pure Edition II is just one of a number of exciting M badged models to be released this year as part of those celebrations.

“2012 is set to be a huge year for BMW M with the release of a new M5 followed by the M6 later in the year, as well as the introduction of the M performance vehicle range,” said Mr Horton.

Mr Horton said he expects the M3 Coupe Pure Edition II to be as successful as the first M3 Pure.

“Australian customers love what these cars offer in terms of looks and the performance to back it up – it is not a car for shrinking violets,” said Mr Horton.

Is that the same Wayne “one nut a week” model builder?

Anyhoo, not a patch on the Competition model with the CSL wheels.
