BMW Australia confirms 125i availability

BMW 1 Series Performance Studie

Back in January we gave you the inside word that the 160kW 125i was going to be added to the BMW Australia range. Well, now they’ve made it official by releasing a press statement to that effect.

The 125i will be available from March production. Well that’s now, but you’ll need to allow at least 6–8 weeks to get yourself a build slot and then have your fancy new car shipped to Australia.

As expected, pricing starts at $45,700 and until the M135i turns from concept into reality this will be the most powerful F20 1 Series you can buy. Add that to the fact the 125i sends all of its power to the rear wheels and the only stumbling block left is working out if you can deal with its rather unique looks.

Also confirmed by BMW Australia is the availability of the M Sport Package, which costs $5385 and can be added to the 118i, 118d and 125i. But you already knew that too.

The asking price for the M Sport package may seem a tad high, but it does offer M Sports suspension, sports seats, M leather Steering wheel, M aerodynamics kit, 18” M light alloy wheels and more.

Range-Topping BMW 1 Series Model Confirmed for Australia

M Sport now available in 1 Series range

  • BMW 125i available from March production
  • New powerful and efficient two-litre, TwinPower Turbo four cylinder engine joins the range
  • M Sport Package now available for 1 Series models

6 March 2012 – BMW Australia today announced the introduction of a range-topping 1 Series model, the BMW 125i, and the introduction of the M Sport package for the latest 1 Series model range.

Combining hot-hatch performance with exemplary fuel efficiency through the new two-litre, four cylinder TwinPower turbo engine, the BMW 125i extends BMW’s on-road dominance of the luxury compact class as the only rear-wheel drive car in the segment.

Completing the all turbo-charged line up, the 125i becomes the first member of the 1 Series family to feature the all new four-cylinder engine. The new 2.0-litre power unit makes use of BMW’s unique TwinPower Turbo Technology which includes twin-scroll turbo, High Precision Injection, the variable valve control system VALVETRONIC and the variable camshaft control system double VANOS. Thanks to this combination, the engine delivers a peak output of 160 kW at 5,000 rpm, quickly developing a maximum torque of 310 Nm from as early as 1,350 rpm, which is enough to thrust it to 100 km/h in a mere 6.4 seconds with the standard 6 speed manual transmission.

The fuel consumption and exhaust emission figures are no less impressive. Equipped with a full range of EfficientDynamics features the 125i returns class-leading fuel consumption of just 6.6 l/100 kms* and CO2 emissions of 154 grams per kilometre.

The BMW 125i also receives additional standard specification over its 1 Series stablemates including mixed 17” Star Spoke alloy wheels, sports leather steering wheel and variable sports steering with servotronic, all of which enhance its dynamic appeal.

The M Sport Package, which is available for the 118i, 118d and 125i, and caters to the more performance-oriented customer with additional exclusive performance features and options. The M Sports suspension, sports seats, M leather Steering wheel, M aerodynamics kit, high gloss shadow line details and anthracite roof liner are all included in this package. It also comes with mixed 18” M light alloy wheels, dakota leather upholstery and an additional Sport + setting in the driver Experience Control.

The M Sport Package can be further enhanced with additional exclusive options such as Estoril Blue metallic paint, M Sport Brake package as well as reduced pricing for the Adaptive M suspension compared to non-M Sport fitted models.

M-sport is hardly expensive with leather, wheel/tyre upgrade and sport seats/steering wheel.
