Fastest MINI hits fastest growing market

29 June 2015. MINI Australia has confirmed standard specification for the new MINI John Cooper Works ahead of its local market launch next month.

The halo model of the updated MINI range, the much-anticipated performance hatch features a substantial increase in specification over its predecessor, combining enhanced performance with a compelling value proposition.

The new MINI John Cooper Works arrives as the brand continues its strong growth, with Australia emerging as the fastest growing market worldwide for the premium small car manufacturer.

Locally, MINI has enjoyed 64.1 per cent growth until the end of May, buoyed by the success of the MINI 5-Door, and ongoing popularity of the MINI 3-Door hatch.

Starting from $47,400* with manual transmission, the model is equipped with 18-inch light alloy wheels, Dynamic Damper Control, John Cooper Works Sports Seats and Professional Navigation with 8.8-inch split screen colour monitor and touchpad as standard.

Another key feature is the inclusion of a sports brake system developed exclusively in collaboration with Brembo, the fixed calliper disc brakes guaranteeing consistently high deceleration performance.

LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, extended Bluetooth functionality with armrest and music streaming DAB+ digital radio, MINI Driving Modes, MINI Excitement Package and MINI Visual Boost are among the further standard equipment included.

The new MINI John Cooper Works also benefits from a bolstered list of driver assistance systems, heightening levels of comfort and safety through the inclusion of a reversing camera, Park Assist with front and rear Park Distance Control and Head-Up Display with model specific content.

MINI Australia General Manager Kai Bruesewitz said the enhanced range of standard features highlighted the maturity of the new MINI John Cooper Works.

“The new MINI John Cooper Works is an incredibly exciting addition to our range, and continues the renewal of our model portfolio, following the launch of the new 3-Door and 5-Door hatches last year,” Bruesewitz said.

“While the boost in performance and output alone is enough for the new John Cooper Works to stand alone from its peers, an increased list of standard specification will provide further value, and another reason to experience the extreme driving fun this car offers.

“MINI has enjoyed an encouraging start to 2015, with the success of our new models introducing the brand to new audiences. The arrival of the new MINI John Cooper Works will allow us to build on this momentum and start on the best possible footing as we approach the second half of the year.”

The new MINI John Cooper Works features the most powerful engine ever fitted to a MINI serial production model, with its 2.0 litre, four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo plant generating 170kW and 320Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0-100km/h in 6.3 seconds.

All current MINI vehicles have a service scheduling system called Condition Based Service (CBS) which identifies the condition of a vehicle based on actual use, realising the full potential of a vehicle and minimising costs.

Under the CBS system, sensors and advanced algorithms monitor and calculate the conditions in which the vehicle is used including mileage, time elapsed since the last service, fuel consumption and how the vehicle is driven. The information captured is used to determine the vehicle’s maintenance requirements, identifying that either an annual vehicle inspection or an oil service is due.

In addition, MINI service and selected maintenance costs can now be covered by a single, one-off advance payment with MINI TLC. TLC offers two packages; MINI TLC Basic Service Inclusive Basic provides scheduled servicing cover, while MINI TLC Plus combines scheduled servicing and selected maintenance items.

For just $980, the MINI TLC Basic package takes care of scheduled servicing costs for five years or 70,000 kms, whichever comes first. The MINI TLC plan provides a long-term solution enabling cover to be extended and transferred to future vehicles owners before expiry.
