Arthur Schening delivers Porsche 917 masterpiece

Porsche 917 by Arthur Schening

You may remember a chap by the name of Arthur Schening who we featured earlier this year. He’s a graphic designer by day and automotive artist by night. Here’s one of his latest releases, the beautiful Porsche 917K in Gulf Racing livery.

Having purchased a couple of pieces already we can vouch for the quality of the prints supplied by Schening and we’re going to find it very hard to resist ordering a copy of this 917 artwork.

For those of you not so inflicted with the Porsche disease perhaps this Ferrari 512M or Alfa Romeo Giula TZ2 may tempt you.

Alfa Romeo shows off the new Giulia

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Alfa Romeo is celebrating its 105th birthday and to do so they have given us the first look at the very, very appealing new Giulia. The company logo has been modernised and the company museum in Arese has re-opened and is ready for Alfisti from all over the world to come and enjoy.

Back to the new Giulia you see before you. We’ve only got a handful of details at this stage and along with the car’s seductive looks we think you will be very interested to learn more.

For now, though, we know the Giulia Quadrifoglio will boast a six-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 380kW (510hp). No less than the engineers from Ferrari have been involved in the engine’s development.

Sounds pretty good, right. Well this new flying Alfa is rear-wheel drive and with a double-clutch transmission can reach 100km/h in 3.9 seconds. Who needs an M3?

The new Giulia features a long wheelbase for composed handling, which is further complemented by mutli-link rear suspension and double-wishbones up front.

There’s a few techy gadgets like an Active Aero Splitter to manage downforce. The car’s weight is split evenly 50:50 and it has a power to weight ratio of less than 3kg/hp.

Lightweight materials such as carbon fibre (prop shaft, bonnet and roof) and aluminium (engine, brakes, suspension, doors and front quarter panels) have been used to help keep the weight down. There’s even carbon ceramic brakes for the hottest of Giulias.

As well, Alfa claims the Giulia has the best torsional rigidity in its class.

Yeah, we want to see more too. For now though we’ve got a handful of pics a cheesy promo video and a press release and they’re all yours after the break. Alfa, colour us interested!

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider confirmed for Australia

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

By now you’ve probably seen the odd Alfa Romeo 4C driving around the streets in Australia. Well, from November you can expect to see the 4C Spider as well.

If nothing else the Spider is better that its hardtop counterpart because it has headlights that weren’t sent from Mars.

Full press details on the 4C Spider announcement can be found below. Of course, pricing is yet to be released, but it’ll no doubt send the cost of your 4C experience into the six-figure bracket, or very close to it.

Have you heard of Arthur Schening?

Porsche 911 S by Arthur Schening

Arthur Schening is a graphic designer, so we already know he is a cool guy. All designers are cool, aren’t we? Anyway, Schening ups the cool factor by some margin by creating these stylish illustrations of some very cool historic racing cars.

Thanks to Ferdinand Magazine for bringing these wonderful artworks to our attention and thanks to PayPal for the transaction I’m about to make.

Yep, that’s right, you can buy prints from Schening, and these three selected samples are just the tip of his automotive iceberg. Visit the Schening Creative website to see his full portfolio.

Alfa Romeo 4C on sale in Australia

Alfa Romeo 4C

If you’re lucky you may have already seen an Alfa Romeo 4C at your local dealer. If not, here’s a bunch of new images that are pretty nice we have to say. Well done and thank you to Alfa Romeo Australia.

Australian pricing and specs have been out for a while (starting from $89,000) so there’s not too many surprises left. However, included after the break are three PDF downloads we reckon fans of this car will like.

Worth its weight in sold

Alfa Romeo 4C

The Alfa Romeo 4C has just arrived in Australia and reports suggest the beefier local-spec has not deterred buyers.

“The dealers say they are sold (but) we don’t know the extent,” Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia’s new president and CEO Pat Dougherty claimed. “Sometimes (the dealers) say they are sold and they may or may not be, but I think they are pretty much sold.

“The demand for them is probably going to exceed the supply for us for the next couple of years.”

The 4C hits the market with a list price of $89,000 for basic spec or $109,000 for the limited-run Launch Edition. Tougher crash regulations mean Australian-delivered models weigh 130kg more than their Euro counterparts. That brings the car’s unladen weight to 1025kg.

Alfa Romeo 4C – Australian pricing & specs

Alfa Romeo 4C

It’s arriving a lot later than expected, a bit more expensive than expected and, worse, a bit heavier than expected, but the arrival of the otherwise highly desirable Alfa Romeo 4C to Australian shores is nigh.

Deliveries will start next month with pricing starting at $89,000. Those extra keen to show off can aim to get their hands on the 4C Launch Edition, which will be priced from $109,000.

The unladen weight of European-spec 4Cs is 895kg. Here, in Australia, that weight bumps up to 1025kg thanks to the addition of extra crash protection in order to meet local safety and design rules. Yay, Australia!

Alfa Romeo maintains the 4C can still reach 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. An extra 130kg in weight and no effect on the 0–100km/h time?

Either that means the original sprint time in 2013 was under quoted, the 1750cc turbocharged engine has been tweaked a little or Alfa Romeo Australia is telling porky pies.

All told there will 1300 4C Launch Editions sold worldwide, 75 of which are coming to Australia. For your extra 20 grand you get to choose from Rosso Alfa or Madreperla White paint colours, a better sounding exhaust, enhanced suspension, staggered forged alloys in matte black (18″ front, 19″ rear), bi-LED headlights, fancy stitching and stacks of carbon fibre trimming.

It’s a shame we’re getting heavier 4Cs here in Australia, but that still doesn’t alter the fact the car has one of the most evocative shapes on sale at the moment and we expect to see quite a few of these on our roads in the next few weeks.

Detroit 2015: Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Here, now in full high resolution detail, is the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C Spider. Looks pretty nice, don’t you think!

It’s powered by the same 1750cc turbocharged four cylinder from the hardtop, which means it has a peak power figure of 177kW (240hp). Torque has been beefed up a little, now up to 380Nm, up from 350Nm.

In race mode and with its 6-speed dual clutch transmission the 4C Spider can reach 100km/h in 4.1 seconds.

Alfa Romeo hasn’t declared the weight of the 4C Spider, at least, not in the material we have seen. So it will be interesting to see how much heavier this model is compared with the 895kg kerbweight of the regular 4C.

Of course, you’re going to want your 4C Spider with the special Track Package, which means you’ll get special forged aluminium wheels (18×7″ front, 19×8.5″ rear), uprated suspension, grippy Pirelli P Zero tyres, a flat bottomed steering wheel and a few carbon fibre highlights around the cabin.

You can read all about that and more after the break.

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider images leaked

Alfa Romeo 4C Spider

Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil the production-ready 4C Spider in Detroit this week. We’re guessing the hero colour is going to be bright yellow after these leaked images appeared online.

We got a pretty preview of the 4C Spider at last year’s Geneva show, when it was white. The production model, which will feature the same drivetrain as the regular 4C, is due for release later this year.
