Jaguar F-Type coupe coming to Goodowod FoS?

Jaguar F-Type coupe prototype

On the same day it’s officially announced “an exciting new design study based on the Jaguar F-Type convertible sports car” will debut at this weekend’s Goodwood Fesitval of Speed new spy shots of the F-Type coupe emerge. Hmm, pretty easy to put one and one together on this one, don’t you think. Check out the gallery from Pistonspy using the link below.

We got a preview of what to expect back in May when drawings of the F-Type coupe were leaked. That simply confirmed that the 2011 C-X16 Hybrid concept is pretty much what the new coupe is going to look like. And that’s a very good thing.

The underpinnings of the coupe will be based on the F-Type convertible, of course, and that would appear to also be a very good thing. Talk of V8s, superchargers and special editions with lots of Rs added to the model designation is always exciting, don’t you think!

We look forward to bringing you more from Jaguar over the coming week.

Jaguar F-Type – 2013 World Car Design of the Year

Jaguar F-Type

Jaguar’s very stylish F-Type has been named the 2013 World Car Design of the Year. It’s another feather in the cap of the accomplished career of Ian Callum.

The F-Type came up trumps impressing the specially appointed five-member design panel who said: “Almost Italian at first glance. the clear, analytic and fresh design of the F-Type is the promising dawn for the company’s latest roadster. The rear can’t hide a certain influence of Alfa’s Brera. The sideview is dominated by muscular rear fenders; the front end is a careful evolution of the XK. Sharper—by that more like a driving machine.”

The design experts formed a shortlist that was passed on to the World Car jurors to choose from. Joining the F-Type in the fight for votes were the Aston Martin Vanquish and the Mazda6.

AIMS 2012 gallery: Jaguar F-type

Jaguar F-type at the 2012 Australian International Motor Show

After falling under the spell of the new Jaguar F-type when it debuted at the Paris Motor Show we were keen to see it in Sydney. The newest Jag sportscar didn’t disappoint either. Its shape, proportions and overall look are first class.

It was nice to see some of Jaguar’s heavy hitters in attendance, namely Ian Callum, Design Director, and Phil Popham, Global Operations Director.

Those unable to get to the motor show in Sydney will have to wait until next year to get another look at the F-type when it is scheduled for its local launch.

To refresh your memory from Paris, the new F-type is available in three specs:

  • F-Type, powered by a 340PS (250kW) 3.0 litre supercharged V6
  • F-Type S, which turns the wick on the V6 up to 380PS (279kW)
  • F-Type V8 S, with a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 offering 495PS (364kW).

More pics from Sydney and general details after the break.

Paris 2012: Jaguar F-Type in video

Jaguar F-Type

The Jaguar F-Type is one of the main attractions at the Paris Motor Show, and for good reason. It’s a great looking machine. And even though we reckon we’ll prefer the hardtop version, due to follow some time in the future, we’re more than willing to stop and admire the convertible version. Which is what many of the world’s motoring media have done in the past few days. There’s three videos for you after the break to help bring you closer to the F-Type.

Paris 2012: Jaguar F-Type

2013 Jaguar F-Type

After many flirtations we can now bring you pics and details on the new F-Type convertible, direct from Jaguar’s mouth.

If you fancy the stylish lines of the F-Type, and who could blame you, there’s a choice of three model designations in the range. First is the F-Type, powered by a 340PS (250kW) 3.0 litre supercharged V6. Next is the F-Type S which turns the wick on the V6 up to 380PS (279kW). Headlining the range is the F-Type V8 S which, unsurprisingly, uses a 5.0 litre supercharged V8, capable of pumping out 495PS (364kW).

All use a close ratio 8-speed auto and normally we’d frown upon that. Sure we’d prefer a manual, but Jaguar has shown in the past it can make a good auto and if you hop into the F-Type with your expectations in check—this is not a Porsche GT3 rival—then we reckon you’ll be rewarded with some great driving fun.

The S and V8 S models feature an active exhaust system for added aural thrills, thanks to valves that open as the tacho climbs above 3000rpm. And they do sound great!

Triple figures are knocked off in 5.3 seconds in the entry level F-Type and 4.9 seconds in the S. While 625Nm of torque helps the V8 S to 100km/h in and 4.3 seconds.

We like the F-Type, it’s a smart looking car. Its proportions are bang on and we hope it does well for Jaguar.

Jaguar reveals C-X16 hybrid concept

Jaguar C-X16 concept

Jaguar has given us an official preview of its C-X16 hybrid sportscar ahead of next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Looks pretty flash, don’t you reckon.

Mainstream power peaks at a healthy 280kW (380PS) courtesy of a supercharged 3.0 litre V6. Thanks to that blower torque tops out at 450Nm. Green power can be accessed with a F1-style push to pass button on the steering wheel. Allowing sir to tap into a further 70kW/235Nm of electric power.

The C-X16 reaches 100km/h in 4.4 seconds. The combination of hybrid power and an 8-speed auto offers good in-gear acceleration and CO2 emissions are a reasonably green 165g/km; green for a sportscar that is.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars like his latest creation. “Jaguars have always been dramatically different. With the C-X16 we have moved the current award-winning design language on to the next generation, creating a car that is the very essence of future Jaguar performance,” he said.
