Fifth Gear – Series 14, Episode 6

Volkswagen Australia, are you watching! Even Tom Ford, all the way over in England, knows the deal—bring the Scirocco to Australia in place of the three door Golf GTI. While GTI production is in limbo prior to the launch of the MkVI model the case for the Scirocco is even stronger. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!

So we know how Episode 6 started, read on to see what else the Fifth Gear had in store.

They’re cramming so much in each ep this series, let’s see how dot point form goes…

  • Jonny tested the thoroughly practical eight-seat Hyundai i800 and the seven-seat Chrysler Grand Voyager.
  • Tim Shaw was next up. Yawn! Tim, the reason you couldn’t sell your car is because you are a plank!
  • Moto GP rider James Toseland got some one to one tuition from Jason Plato on how to drive an Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
  • Jonny—back again—tested a new Jeep against the original. He enlisted the help of a GI Joe who sounded like a walking, talking movie trailer.
  • VBH fanged about in a Porsche Boxster RS60 Spyder. She used a ten year old 996 911 Carrera as a benchmark, and, try as she might, the old Porker still edged out the newer Boxster cousin around their test track. Just.
  • Tiff took a Lotus Exige down a drag strip. Okay, not the usual road of choice for an Exige, but this one was powered by a tri-fuel tuned engine, capable of running on gasoline, bio-ethanol or methanol, and Tiff was shooting for a new quarter mile world record for an alternative fuel powered car. He seat a time of 12.91 seconds at 107mph! In doing so, he claimed the world record he was chasing.
