Peugeot RCZ to be revealed at Frankfurt Motor Show

Peugeot RCZ

Peugeot’s answer to the Audi TT, the RCZ 2+2 Coupé, will make it’s official, production ready, debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September. To help build anticipation for this reveal Peugeot have released a bunch of teaser images. We’re not sure who the dude in the dark glasses is, but we think he thinks he is pretty cool. Never mind, it’s all about the car right, so just click on each image to load 2000px versions.

The good news is the RCZ will be in Pegeuot showrooms across the globe in 2010, including Australia.

Ken Thomas, general manager of Peugeot Automobiles Australia said, “The RCZ got a lot of attention when it was unveiled as a concept car and we are confident that the car will receive even more attention on the road.

“We will be offering high performance petrol and diesel engines when the car arrives here. To say we are excited about the RCZ coming to Australia is an understatement.”

It will be interesting to see what Peugeot defines as high performance engines. By the time the RCZ arrives down under the Audi TT RS will be on sale and then there is also the BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Nissan 370Z and Porsche Cayman to consider.

Will the RCZ be a hairdresser’s car, or can Peugeot capture the spirit of the Le Mans winning 908 HDi and make a fair dinkum sports coupé for the road?

More pics after the jump.

Peugeot Confirms RCZ for Australia

Peugeot Automobiles Australia has confirmed that it will be bringing Peugeot’s exciting new sports car, the RCZ, to Australia in 2010.

Unveiled to critical acclaim as a concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007, the RCZ will soon become a production reality.

Peugeot’s stylists and engineers have worked to ensure that the RCZ that will hit Australian roads will be in keeping with the expectations created by the stunning design of the original concept.

The objective behind Peugeot’s sports car is for it to become an exclusive vehicle, full of emotion, aimed at enthusiasts who are particularly discerning with regards to driving enjoyment.

The Peugeot RCZ will be launched in Australia early in the second half of 2010.

Ken Thomas, general manager/ director of Peugeot Automobiles Australia said the RCZ represents a huge opportunity for the brand.

THE PEUGEOT RCZ – Full of Emotion (UK press release)

  • On sale in Spring 2010
  • An exclusive vehicle, full of emotion, aimed at enthusiasts
  • First car not to use Peugeot’s usual zero or double zero numbering system
  • First public viewing at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor show in September

In September 2007, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Peugeot unveiled a concept car which was the talk of the show: the 308 RCZ.

The exceptional levels of interest expressed at the show convinced Peugeot that they had to turn this concept car into a commercial reality. However, in doing so, the transformation from dream to reality would require real determination, daring and a lot of inventiveness.

Peugeot’s stylists and engineers worked together to ensure that the final production vehicle was fully in keeping with the expectations created by the exterior styling of the concept car.

The first wish had always been to keep the purity of the original concept’s styling, but also to ensure that the car would drive as well as it looks. In fact, some very ambitious targets were set in terms of driving dynamics and build quality, in order to give the car its own extremely strong identity.

The objective behind this compact 2+2 Coupé is for it to become an exclusive vehicle, full of emotion, aimed at enthusiasts who are particularly discerning with regards to driving enjoyment.

The choice of the name, RCZ, symbolises this special and unique position within the Peugeot range, as it is the first car which does not use the usual zero or double zero numbering system.

The RCZ, therefore, becomes an illustration of all of Peugeot’s key values; values which move with the times but are still pure and always in keeping with today.

The final challenge faced by the project team was to complete the development of this new vehicle in a particularly short period of time. This was achieved as, just two years after the concept car was first shown, the RCZ will be revealed for the first time to the public in its final form at the 63rd Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The RCZ will go on sale in Spring 2010.

Can you get SatNav with it, or do they wait until a month after you’ve ordered and then tell you it’s not available, and then 6 months later still have it listed as being available on their Australian website?

Hehe, being a new model ordering guineapig kind of sucks. My car has everything I wanted except climate control which was supposedly standard on the Checkmates until the first lot of custom ordered ones rolled off the ship in Australia and they realised it wasn’t…. That said, Mini were pretty generous with the compensation – not that I use the (horrifically expensive) Mini branded luggage much anyway 🙁

Oh and the RCZ looks very cool. Let’s just hope they never decide to do a convertible version – then it’ll just look like every other hairdressers car from Peugeot.
