VW Golf VII rendering

The current Golf VI is not even two years old yet, but renderings and speculation for the new Golf VII are already building. Dutch website Autointernationaal is the latest to throw their hat in the ring, and here’s a round up of what they’re saying.

Continuing the evolution theme so well mastered by the Golf it is understood Volkswagen design chief Walter de’Silva has said the next generation Golf will draw heavily on the original Mk1 from the 1970s, as well as the Mk4 which originally debuted in the late 1990s.

The new engine range will feature a mix of turbo-diesel, petrol, hybrid and electric options. It is expected the new Golf will grow in width and length, but overall height will be reduced. We should start seeing official appearances from the next-gen Golf in 2012 prior to the MkVII entering the market in 2013.

So how many years is the Mk6 meant to last? Not another 4 year model like MkV? Is VW now a Japanese car?

The Mk6 was always going to be a bit of a stop-gap model with a comparatively short model run, hence why some people consider it a Mk5.5.

I guess it’s a good thing I ordered a MKVI GTI yesterday *facepalm*. Nevermind, it should be a while before we see a MKVII GTI.

^ Not to worry, probably 2014.

Have any of these renderings ever been even close? Some of the Mk VI attempts from a few years ago were ludicrous at best. Take a severe lack of imagination/talent and baseless extrapolation of current models and voilà! Your Auto Express scoop is ready.

de Silva’s comments are intriguing. They always seem to hark back to previous models, but mashing the I and IV together in a modern guise could be great.
