Lamborghini Super Trofeo driver survives horrific crash at Brno

Super Trofeo crash @ Brno

The driver of this Lamborghini Gallardo competing in a Super Trofeo race in Brno yesterday has survived with relatively minor injuries. Unconfirmed reports suggest the lucky driver escaped with a broken arm and first degree burns to his legs. (See update below.)

Such injuries would usually be cause for concern, but take a look at the series of images after the jump and you will understand just how fortunate this guy is to be alive. It’s a sickening crash. Fortunately the impact happened on the main straight and Czech Republic marshalls and safety officers were quickly on the scene.

As well as the images below you can also see a YouTube clip of the accident. More images can be seen by following the source link.

UPDATE: Here is a link to an official statement from the Super Trofeo website. It reads, in part: “The driver of car number 22, Giorgio Bartocci, was taken to hospital following an accident at the start of the first race of the weekend.  He remains in intensive care in hospital in Brno, where his condition is currently stable.”

That guy should go and buy a lottery ticket. Well done to Lamborghini for making such a safe car!

I’m not sure where you are getting your information from but this guy is still critically ill in intensive care. Official statement from Super Trofeo this morning confirmed this.

The firemarshalls run for life of the driver (they have to run with full equipment about 60 meters) and they actually saved his life because they pull him out of this flame hell. Both first two firemen have had burns on their faces. I know that because I was member of the medical crew which was first on place. It was pretty hot there even when the main flames were down. And driver was actually pretty lucky. If it was happened on the track somewhere else (far away from the start where is the best concentration of the fire crew) he would probably have burned to the death. There was about 100 litres of highly flamable petrol there, which have burned instantly.

I hope the driver pulls through.

Congratulations to the safety and medical teams.

No Dave, Lamborghini did not make a safe (racing!)car. The fuel tank is the same as in the streetversion and that should never have been allowed. Reason: changing it takes a day a car.
On the other hand: the impact was extreme, even the engine is torn out.

And no, Stevie, not the 2 firemen took him out, it was a.o. Mr Fitzgerald from Lamborghini, without a special suit of course. A brave man who acted first.

P.S. to Dave: changing the tanks at the production line that is, of course. Can’t be done afterwards.

hopefully the guy pulls through i was watching the stream live and i really thought the guy was dead…

i think that it would take about 1 hr to retro fit a safe racing tank in the boot space , and as far as i can see the engine is still intact as its at the back of the car …..

Just a shame it took guys from garages to help as the 1960’s style fire engine was limping to the scene! Also the helicopter took ages to get there. I know that it was because he didn’t fit his seat belt correctly that saved him, cos he was thrown half way out of the car! If he had, he would be dead!

Also the drivers that drove past should be ashamed! It was always going to be red flagged and they had all the fire proof clothing on!

Hope the guy recovers.

But really poor show from the staff, not very high standards of safety. There was guys with pea shooters trying to put the fire out and the first to try pull the driver out was a guy in unprotected gear, before a fire offical helped. Then the fire engine come just as the fire was out and long after the driver got pulled out.

But this is just how it is at lower profile motorsport events, unlike say F1.

Giorgio is not any more in danger of is life, he will be transfert to Rome hospital in a cople of days. The big problems are the burns on the legs. From a friend of Giorgio Bartocci

Thanks to the brave men who endangered themselves with self-sacrifice (and they suffered burns) to help save a life. May their good deeds stand before the Holy Throne and may G-d grant them reward! You deserve thanks and reward. I would be so thankful if you had done that for me. I know that you suffered burns. You are good men.

two or three mans from garage teams without any protection
saved the live from gioro. one lookes like hans.

The person that saved his life was not the fire fighters. It was the man in all black w/out any fire suits. The fire fighters need to go back to training and review this video and use it as an example of the incorrect way of responding to a fire
