Geneva 2011: Subaru Impreza Concept

Subaru Impreza Concept

You may recall this Impreza Concept was first launched by Subaru at last year’s LA show. Not being a new release there’s been no fanfare from Subaru about this at Geneva. However, it’s good to see some images of the mostly attractive looking lines taken away from the benefits of studio lighting.

It’s the rear of this car that’s likely to cause the most anxiety to one’s eyes and, thankfully, from the angle shown below it doesn’t look too bad. It’s a forgiving perspective, though, so we’d still like to see more.

In recent years Subaru has seemed to lose its way with its exterior design, so are we seeing a resurgence from them now, or will this new Impreza be a one-off?

Man, this is just terrible. Those guards look like an afterthought and apart from the sharp edges there’s really not much coherence to the overall design. Borrowing the rear look (ie. exhaust extensions) from an R35 GT-R isn’t a smart thing either. Hopefully they get plenty of negative feedback on this concept that they send it out to pasture.

It actually looks like, almost, a Ford Focus hardtop coupé from around 2004-2006, well done Ford back then, but doing something this plain and, well, un-Impreza like now will certainly turn me off buying the new one. I’ve got a 2009 WRX and this is as far from McRae’s GT as I ever want to go! Basta!
