Detroit 2012: Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet

Porsche revealed details of its new 911 Carrera Cabriolet late last year, but the car’s first public showing is taking place right now in Detroit.

Matthias Müller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG, was on hand for the official duties and says it’s the best 911 cabrio ever, “Our engineers have built the best 911 in 48 years. That applies every bit as much to the Coupé as it does to the Cabriolet.”

Müller hopes the 991 will continue the company’s sales growth. Last year Porsche set a new record when it sent 118,867 out its showroom doors.

Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet: world premiere for the open-top 911

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, unveiled the 911 Carrera Cabriolet in Detroit today. The 911 is making its debut with a completely new roof concept that combines the elegant styling of the Coupé with the advantages of a light fabric hood. So it is that the Cabriolet continues all the innovations of the new 911 Carrera family, complemented by new features for open sports cars: intelligent lightweight design ensures less weight and more sportiness, lower fuel consumption and greater comfort. As with the Coupés, the new Cabriolets start with the 911 Carrera, powered by a 350 hp (257 kW), 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine and the 911 Carrera S with 400 hp (294 kW) flat engine and 3.8 litre displacement.

Matthias Müller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, unveiled the new Cabriolet in Detroit. “Our engineers have built the best 911 in 48 years. That applies every bit as much to the Coupé as it does to the Cabriolet.” In his speech, he also observed: “In 2011, with 118.867 deliveries, Porsche set a new record in the company’s history. In 2012 we are planning to continue growing as well and will raise this record performance to new heights.”

Together with the 911 Carrera Coupé, the Cabriolet is putting a sporty emphasis on the first motor show 2012. Other exhibits as well are in the same vein: The puristic Panamera GTS is a variant of the Gran Turismo family with optimised driving dynamics; the Cayman R lends motor racing flair to the two-seater sports Coupé class.
