Enjoy the ride

Here’s a new road safety ad from the State Government of Western Australia. There’s no blood and guts, just a calm, measured and composed message. It’s not quite got the same pull on the heart strings as the Embrace life TVC from the UK, but it follows a similar path.

After you’ve watched it let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Fantastic film, but sadly (and ironically) in this hyper-reality world very few people would take the time to watch the whole thing.

The South Australian Government is well known around the world for having the best rail safety advert campaigns, the latest one that started last year had a similar theme to the WA video posted and managed to fit it into a 30 second slot.

Its interesting, because in the hustle and bustle of city life in Melbourne where I live… Where the person is focused on being the car in front, not behind, it makes sense. Only problem is, the message doesn’t stick, its an ideal, or an idealogy that people will connect with once, but it won’t change their habbit… But when I saw that ad, it certainly resonated with me… But then again, I grew up in the far north of QLD where lifestyle means, she’ll be right mate… I don’t know, i’d be interested for peoples views, maybe what a convicted drunk driver might say, or what a CEO of a major organisation might say… Nice to see something positive though, sure beats the “shock” tactics the TAC put up in melbourne…

I don’t know that sticking to the speed limit is less stressful. Try it in Sydney (especially in roadwork areas) and you find B-Doubles trying to push you off the road, 4WDs cutting in and so on.

The ad still has an admirable sentiment.

“Enjoy the ride not the race”…Gee Australia – how original. Umm…where have I seen that road campaign?……..Ah, yes, New Zealand. First, you claim Jandals as your own (but, aren’t thongs underwear?) & then Pavlova & Split Enz. Where will it end…
As Christo commented, a lot of Australians won’t “get it”. There’s too many drivers here with that “Get out of my way, I own the road, I need to be first in line” attitude. And, that’s such a shame.
