Renault Megane 265 Trophy v Subaru BRZ

Renault Megane 265 v Subaru BRZ

Okay, it’s probably no surprise that the 265hp on offer in the Renault Megane 265 Trophy—one of the world’s best front-wheel drive chassis—can see off the 200hp found under the bonnet of the rear-wheel drive Subaru BRZ. But watch this video from Evo, filmed at Bedford Autodrome, and see if you think everything went according to script.

It’s a piece of crap. I hate it. It’s not even a cheap car and wayyyyyy under powered! Buy an RX8 – more fun and quicker.

lol, I don’t think i like that driver :s… he had a few corners were he was jerky with the wheels, I think mainly cause he was dicking around with the paddles too much.

Get a manual vs a manual!

Yes agreed it is underpowered!! but I will find a few mods in a few years to fix that 😀

I call shenanigans. Sure it’s down on power, but I find it hard to believe the dynamics suck, particularly given nobody else has reviewed the car negatively.

And if there’s no STI variant with a Turbo in the future, I’ll be well shocked.

Barker is no fool. He has enough experience in all types of cars and race tracks that his opinion should be taken at face value.

The choice of auto transmission does seem odd though. On a couple of levels.

In the UK though. The typical buyer won’t ever see a track. And most likely will go a semi auto dsg gearbox. Last week was another brz video from itality to uk. 1st into uk??. Wasn’t that the same car The same auto??

Yeah WAY, but why is this a surprise? The RS Meganes and Clios are not cars that are great for their price. They are great driver’s cars. They are genre-defining cars. They get under your skin and force you to ignore the lack of alcantara-clad this or leather-draped that.

On a side note: Notwithstanding my extremely modest driving abilities, I remember how I could go round a bend (I shall not name where it was) in my humble torque-challenged Clio at speeds that made me pucker my butt cheeks when I’d try it in one of my Porsches or BMWs. My C63 would have come out of that corner sideways and my TT RS had left me so thoroughly bored getting around it that I gave it up after one month of owning it on account of its soporific performance there! That corner is my litmus test of car excellence and I rank-order my cars based on the experience they deliver there.

Prof prof prof, you remember this post the next time you bring up buying a TTRS plus! Anyway, I reckon the Megane RS 260 thingy is a go bud!

I was a bit surprised that the BRZ didn’t handle very well. On paper, it should’ve been a better driving experience than the Megane, and with better weight distribution, and better chassis setup it wouldn’t have been faster, but more enjoyable to drive. But to hear that it lacked feedback was disappointing. It seems that Subaru continues to struggle to build cars that provide that little bit more when it comes to conveying information to the driver.

*Please note that this author is unashamedly the owner of a RS250 that he loves very much.*

@panda666 this is the only negitive review on these to cars I have seen(been following them since 08).

So I am willing to sound aragant when I say I will listen to the other reviewers….

The RX-8 is still a way better car. It’s a REAL sports car front to back. It out classes the 84.

Car reviews tend to mean 4/5th’s of FA until I can confirm or deny their opinions myself by having my own test drive.

Why would you go through the expense and effort of doing a video review like that, and NOT put a mic on the two presenters??

Idiots, see Chris Harris review. Much more honest and accurate. So 99% of reviews have been positive but these turkeys who tested the auto version WHY???? against a manual car. If this guy is such a great driver why would he be flicking paddles on a conventional auto???? It’s just a gimmick (for the lazy American market) and does nothing to improve the driving experience. If it wasn’t for the American market this car would never have been released in auto. Yet these turkeys who are from the UK chose the auto version? Stink a bit of a Renault pay day. Does he think it would work like a DSG? Because it doesn’t. Idiots if you ask me. Also the Renaults is pushing $50K +++ on the road. I just placed my order on an 86 GTS for $36K drive away, plus a much larger dealer network for servicing and cap price servicing which is cheap as chips.

I have test driven the BRZ manual.and then ordered one.
It is the most balanced and fun car I have driven since my Porsche 944 turbo. But weighs a lot less.
Power is adequate , I am sure there will be turbo models in he near future.

The BRZ should have been a manual. The stock tires are also crap, on purpose. When fitted with real performance tires, the times will plummet.
