“I just gave it some jandal and…”

Volvo S60 Polestar V8SC v Holden Commodore V8SC

Young Kiwi Scott McLaughlin has been making waves in V8 Supercars and his dice with Jamie Whincup in Race 2 of the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide yesterday has helped put his new car, the Volvo S60 Polestar on the map.

The final lap of Race 2 saw a balls to the wall fight between McLaughlin and Whincup. And just when you thought it was all over a rookie mistake handed the sport a massive boost going into a new season.

Make sure you tune in for McLaughlin’s post-race interview.

Young Scotty is really looking like a future star with his relaxed driving style. Between him, Chaz Mostert and Scott Pye, the future of Aussie motorsport is in safe hands.

The Volvo for me is also the best looking car on the grid. Very happy to see them on the podium. Now bring back the wagon!

Wayne – you have to be a Volvo now. There is a T5 with you name on it.

Ovlov sounds good too. Good to see Whingecup got his just desserts. Great reaction from the crowd as well.

I don’t follow V8SC enough, but it surprises me than Whincup seems to have a lot of detractors. I thought he was well liked???

Liam, I admire Whincup for his driving skills and consistency, and he has a large fan base, but its like every fan of every other team dislikes him…..because he wins. Where Lowndes is liked by everyone.
Interestingly, Jamie has about 37,000 followers on Twitter, Lowndes, one of the highest in V8SC is around 50,000, compared to Lee Holdsworth and Scott McLaughlan both around 9,000 followers.
Whincup does come across as arrogant but, I changed my opinion after having direct contact on Twitter with him about a fish he caught. A few other drivers could learn not only from his driving skills but also how he connects with his fans. I can’t say I am a Whincup fan, but he has my respect as a driver and a person!

What a brilliant finish to the 2nd Race, and more importantly a great opening round for V8SC.. It’s been a number of years since I’ve followed it myself, however there’s never been a better time to rejoin the fun.

F@#k yeh! :p

@Liam – it happens in V8SC to anybody who wins on an excessively regular basis.

The second race was all about who was coping with the cooling temperatures and reduced tyre performance the best and you could see all of them were right on the edge in the closing laps with everybody sliding around at some point. It’s a tribute to the elite standard of driving in the series that there were so few crashes.
