The first video you’ll see after the break poses the question: Is the Cayman GT4 the best sounding Porsche ever? Watch the clip, it does sound very good.
But the best sounding Porsche ever? Not even close.

I always say that if I ever win Lotto the first car I would go and order would be a 911 GT3. But I think that’s about to change. Supply issues aside, a Cayman GT4 is working its way to my #1 Lotto status!
Thanks to Evo, Autocar and PistonHeads for the opinion altering assistance.
I really want a Cayman GT4. Watch this video from Chris Harris and you will too.
Not much more needs to be said.
If you don’t love the Cayman GT4 you bloody well should. And if you love the Cayman GT4 then you sure as hell will get hot under the collar at talk of a GT4 RS model.
“This is just the beginning of the era,” Andreas Preuninger, Godfather of the Porsche GT program told Evo. “I would be interested in doing a Cayman GT4 RS version, but at the moment we didn’t even talk about such a thing. If the customers call for something like this we could think about it.
“We underestimated the success of the Cayman GT4, which shows that we were right with the concept. In England, within three days two years of cars were sold. It happened in Sweden, it happened in Germany…everywhere.”
Well, Andreas, who wouldn’t want a Cayman GT4 RS … make it happen brother!

Porsche is showing off its new Cayman GT4 at the Geneva Motor Show. With that comes a raft of information, new pics and technical specifications.
We’re very happy to bring that all to you now. Because cutaways!
Porsche has come good with some slightly comical videos of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Cayman GT4 in time for the Geneva Motor Show. Comical because they’ve been sped up in parts. It’s a little bit Wacky races!
There’s two more GT3 RS clips after the break as well. Make sure you pay attention to see if you can spot the editing fail.
We already love the Porsche Cayman GT4, so hearing Porsche’s boss of GT cars Andreas Preuninger talk about his new toy was something we have been looking forward to. We thank Jethro Bovingdon and Evo magazine for bringing this video to the world.
Preuninger goes through technical details of the 1340kg 283kW/420Nm GT4 sharing with us the close connection this model has with Porsche’s other GT cars such as the iconic 911 GT3 and 911 GT2.
Put 20 minutes aside to watch this clip (you can just listen to it), you won’t regret it.

Forget everything. This is all the sportscar you will ever need. It’s the new Porsche Cayman GT4.
It’s got a 283kW 3.8 litre flat six engine from a 911. It’s got a 6-speed manual gearbox and only a 6-speed manual gearbox; this is a PDK-free zone! It’s got perfect mid-engined balance and poise. It’s got that note perfect Porsche flat-six noise.
Okay, you need to look past the challenging look of the fixed rear wing. That does ruin the stylish curves of the Cayman body somewhat, but you know what, a few minutes in the driver’s seat and you won’t care about that meccano add on one bit!
If you care at all, the GT4 can lap the Ring in 7 minutes 40 seconds. But this car will be so much more than outright pace. Other cars will be faster. Few will match the pure driving enjoyment. It will do everything so well. You just know it will. I want one and I want one badly!
The Cayman GT4 goes on sale in Australia post-September and will be priced from $190,300.
The Porsche 911 is a great car. A 911 GT3 sits pretty close to the top of our we just won lotto list. But let’s face it, it’s only due to the sheer bloody mindedness and excellence of Porsche’s engineers that a car with its engine over its arse is any good.
In some respects the Cayman is inherently a better car than a 911. The mid-engined layout of the Cayman provides a pure driving experience. The handling is predictable and neutral. And a flat six engine right behind your ears is plain awesome.
Of course, a Cayman is not actually better than a 911. For marketing a number of reasons Porsche can’t let that happen.
But that could be about to change. The car above is the Cayman GT4 and it’s going to be a rip snorter. It will head the Cayman model range and will bring the Cayman closer to the 911 than it’s ever been before.
As well as the more obvious changes to the bodywork, including a more aggressive front splitter and bigger side air intakes, the GT4 will boast more power, less weight and even more finely tuned suspension.
Cast your bets as to the type of engine the GT4 will have—a normally aspirated flat six with 3.4–3.8 litre capacity or maybe even a brand new turbocharged four cylinder unit—just pencil in around 300kW (400hp).
You know you want it!

Whenever a new sports car is made manufacturers usually pitch it as the next big thing to knock the 911 off its perch. Well, it looks like even Porsche is getting in on that act now with this Cayman prototype spotted lurking menacingly in Germany.
Expected to carry the GT4 nameplate this Cayman should take its general concept from the 911 GT3. Well, except the dodgy engine, of course. That means it should be a bit lighter, a bit stiffer and have a half roll cage fitted as well.
There’ll be more power, of course, but it’s uncertain in what form that power will arrive. The simplest option would be to upgrade the Cayman’s 3.4 litre flat six. Sliding upwards along the increasingly unlikely scale is the option of a 3.8 litre Carrera S engine, right up to the delightful, albeit cost-prohibitive, prospect of using a descendant of the 2.0 litre turbocharged V4 from the 919 LMP1 car.
Whatever the outcome is we know we’ll want one. Even with its crumby-but-excellent PDK transmission.
