Porsche being sued over Paul Walker’s death

Porsche Carrera GT

Paul Walker was killed in late 2013 while taking a ride in a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT. Walker’s friend Roger Rodas was driving at the time of the accident. Excessive speed is thought to have been the main cause of the accident, but Porsche is now being forced to defend itself following news that Walker’s daughter, Meadow Walker, is filing a wrongful death suit against the company.

The lawsuit claims, “the vehicle lacked safety features that are found on well-designed racing cars or even Porsche’s least expensive road cars—features that could have prevented the accident or, at a minimum, allowed Paul Walker to survive the crash.”

It’s also claimed that the seatbelt design of the Carrera GT was faulty and contributed to Walker’s death.

In response Porsche states, “We are very sad whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities’ reports in this case clearly establish that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed.”

Is the Cayman GT4 the best sounding Porsche ever?

Porsche Cayman GT4

The first video you’ll see after the break poses the question: Is the Cayman GT4 the best sounding Porsche ever? Watch the clip, it does sound very good.

But the best sounding Porsche ever? Not even close.

How cool is this? A disrobed Porsche Carrera GT. It’s already one of the most desirable Porsches ever made and, yet, somehow, without its bodywork it becomes even more alluring.

VIDEO: Evo’s highway to heaven

Evo's highway to heaven

Henry Catchpole from Evo takes us into a motoring fantasy land with this video:

This test brings together some of the greatest analogue super cars—the ones that make you work hard as a driver, but are hugely rewarding – where we discover what they are all about, and why we love them. The McLaren F1 goes up against the Ferrari F40 and F50, Porsche Carrera GT, Noble M600, Pagani Zonda F and Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV.

There’s nothing further we can add, except to ask. Can you imagine how special, how wonderful and how life changing it would have been to experience those seven cars back to back.

Past master Porsche

Past master: Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT

The Porsche Carrera GT is easily one of AUSmotive’s top five dream cars. After stumbling across a brief test from Autocar, which was filed to YouTube only a couple of weeks ago, it inspired us to put together this Past master article.

Built in Leipzig from 2004–2007 the total production run of the Carrera GT was 1270. It’s powered by a race-inspired 5.7 litre V10 and is good for a still healthy 450kW (612hp). And it makes one of the sweetest sounds known to man.

It really does.

The Carrera GT is stunning to look at as well. It is quite simply one of the most desirable road going Porsches ever made. Yet, it has virtually nothing to do with the 911 on which Porsche’s reputation was built.

While time will shadow its performance and all-round capability the Carrera GT, for us, will always sit on a pedestal.

We trust you’ll enjoy the videos, wallpaper-friendly image gallery and press material that is waiting for you after the break.

Is the Carrera GT the most beautiful Porsche of all?

Porsche Carrera GT

Probably not. But if you take a look at this photoshoot on the GTSpirit forums you’ll most likely think the Carrera GT is a much nicer looking car than you first thought.

So, then, the most beautiful Porsche of all time? Can you really go past a mint 356 Speedster? I don’t think you can.

[Thanks to Richard for the tip]

One of the best places on the net to source great photos of great cars is My Car Portal. Today they have a series of pics featuring the awesome Porsche Carrera GT. Not sure about you, but the Carrera GT is on my top 5 list. The sound from the 5.7 litre V10 engine is sublime, one of the best engines notes you will ever hear.

Top Gear tea break – Porsche Carrera GT

Top Gear Porsche Carrera GT review

Here at AUSmotive we love Top Gear and we love nice cars. Very nice cars. To celebrate the recent arrival of the official Top Gear YouTube channel here is a Top Gear tea break. Set aside a few minutes—7 minutes 58 seconds in this case—and enjoy Jeremy Clarkson’s review of the Porsche Carrera GT. Sure, this clip may be a few years old now, taken from way back in Series 4, but the car in question is absolutely timeless. One of my all time favourites. At the time The Stig’s best lap of 1:19.8 was the fastest time recorded around the Top Gear test track. Sadly, the Top Gear boffins have prevented embedding of their YouTube clips, but click on the image above to be taken to the clip and, as Jeremy says, “LISTEN TO THAT ENGINE!” … it is one of the best automotive sounds ever created.
